Applying to Hymers College
We understand how important it is to choose the right school for your family, and our Admissions team is here to make that journey as smooth as possible.
Our most common entry points are Pre-School, Reception, Year 3, Year 7 and Year 12. However, if there is space we can sometimes accept children to other year groups and even mid-way through an academic year.
If you have any questions, please get in touch by emailing admissions@hymers.org or calling 01482 343555.
Our Admissions Process
Step 1: Visit Hymers
Where possible, we always recommend that families attend one of our Open Events. This is when all of our staff, pupils and other parents are on hand to show you around and answer any questions that you might have.
If you miss these, don’t worry, you can also request a tour at another time.
Step 2: Apply Online
As places are in demand we recommend applying as early as possible to secure your child’s place. Some families choose to apply years in advance.
We recommend applying by December for full fee paying places. For Hymers Fee remission (bursary) places, the deadline is Friday 29 November 2024 for entry in September 2025.
All applications should be made online. At this point we will ask you to upload copies of your child’s passport/birth certificate, their latest school report (if they have one) and to pay an application fee.
Step 3: Entrance Assessment
If your child joins us from the Spring Term of Year 2 onwards they will need to sit an entrance assessment.
Our entrance assessments are tailored to the year group.
For Sixth Form, we review applicants based on their GCSE results and an interview. Bursary applicants are also required to take a computer-based CAT test.
Step 4: Receive Your Offer
Following your entrance assessment, our senior leadership team will decide whether to make an offer and any conditions associated with this, i.e. required GCSE results for entry to Sixth Form.
This will be sent to you either via email or by post.
Step 5: Confirm Your Place
Your offer will include information on what to do to confirm your place. Make sure you follow the instructions to secure your child’s place.
Step 6: Joining Details & Events
In the months prior to your child joining us, you’ll receive full details regarding buses, uniform and induction dates to help your child prepare for life at Hymers.
Step 7: Join Hymers College
Our helpful team will be on hand to help your family settle into the Hymers community.
