130th Anniversary of Hymers College - Founder's and Benefactors’ Day 2023

This week we remember key people in the school’s past without whom Hymers would not exist as it does today. Giving thanks to our founder, John Hymers, and benefactors for Hymers College The school has a long history of benefaction.

It goes back to our earliest days. In October, we had a day of celebrations; our Heads of schools spoke magnificently, our musicians performed beautifully, and the OH community nurtured their friendships and made new ones over lunch in the old gym. Thanks to Reverend Ian Walker for delivering our service to our Senior School students. Thank you to the anti-bullying ambassadors and The Development Office for a Krispy Kreme bake sale for our students, where they raised vital funds for our John Hymers Bursary Fund.

The Junior School children and staff dressed in Victorian-themed costumes and learned about the history of our founder John Hymers and the opening of their school in 1893. The children were shown some of our artefacts and memoirs from the Hymers archive museum, including uniforms, portraits, and an invitation to the school's grand opening.

Thank you to those visionary benefactors and supporters who make Hymers the school it is today. Whether your gift to us is your time or your money, we appreciate all of the support our Hymers community gives Hymers today.

Our Junior School celebrated Hymer's 130th birthday in Victorian costume and came to see our Old Hymerians from across the decades who were staying for lunch. It was a pleasure to have OH, Jack Dixon with us who was at school 1934- 1939. Our students thoroughly enjoyed hearing tales from Jack's school days and what changes there have been at Hymers since Jack was here. It was an absolute honour to have Jack with us back at school after he celebrated his 100th birthday this year.

Thank you to all of those who shared the day with us that was full of gratitude, reflection, and celebrations.
