Colour Run 2023

We recently held our first Colour Run where our students enjoyed raising valuable funds for The John Hymers Bursary Fund.

The event was organised by the students who form part of our 'Anti-Bullying Ambassador group'*. Their role is to help educate their peers on bullying behaviour, lead on anti-bullying campaigns, promote a culture which celebrates and tolerates difference and help keep their peers safe both online and offline. Our students are currently working towards their 'Respect' badge and they were very keen to organise an event to demonstrate our all-inclusive student body.

Thank you to our students and families for supporting such a vital initiative and having lots of fun! It was humbling to see the students across all year groups supporting each other and joining in the fun.

At Hymers College, 12% of our students are on a bursary award and our long-term strategic goal is to never have to turn away a talented student in Hull and East Riding regardless of their family income.

For the training of intelligence in whatever social rank of life it may be found.
— Reverend John Hymers

We are extremely fortunate to have the Hymers community supporting our mission to thrive to increase our bursary provision, and make a life-changing impact on a young person's life. At the time of writing this article, we have raised enough funds to support one child for nearly one term at Hymers.

*An Anti-Bullying Ambassador is someone who has been trained by The Diana Award Anti-Bullying Programme

The Diana Award's Anti-Bullying Campaign involves several projects aimed at reducing bullying in schools. One of its main projects is the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors programme, which has trained over 50,000 young people across the UK to lead anti-bullying campaigns in their schools. It raises awareness of bullying behaviour and supports schools and young people to tackle it across the UK and beyond. The programme has a strong peer-to-peer focus, with the facilitators giving young people the skills and confidence to become Ambassadors to tackle bullying in their schools long after the training has finished. The awards anti-bullying work is recognised as world-class thanks to this sustainable and youth-led approach.
