Hymers College football team win national cup competition
The under 15 boys football team at Hymers College have claimed the title in the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) National Cup.
The team battled it out at Beaconsfield Town Football Club, playing against St James School from London. They clinched the win with a final score of 5-2.
The match against St James was a display of skill, resilience and teamwork, as the boys played with a level of composure and confidence that showcased their growth over the years.
Kristian Walmsley, Head of Football at Hymers College said: “This success marks the culmination of years of blood, sweat and tears from near-misses. The heartbreak of those close calls only fueled the team’s desire to improve, and this year they came back stronger than ever, fully prepared to take on the challenge.
“From the very first whistle, it was clear that the boys were playing with a sense of unity, purpose and relentless energy. The team showed incredible determination, skill and resilience throughout the match - a true testament to their hard work and determination.”
Mr Stanley, Headmaster at Hymers College, said: “This triumph marks a huge milestone for Hymers College, as our first national title in a number of years.
“Sport is a core part of life here at Hymers College. Whilst we’re renowned for rugby, our pupils have seen successes in a wide variety of sports in recent years. With our under 11 girls football team also through to a national final, I’m looking forward to seeing how football at Hymers continues to thrive.”
“It was a pleasure to cheer them to victory, along with a great crowd of travelling supporters. The energy and support from the Hymers family helped carry the boys to victory, and for that I’m very thankful to the wonderful community that we have built at the school.”
This victory comes shortly after the school’s under 11 girls football team reached the Premier League Primary Stars final, which is yet to take place.
