Parivash climbed for Young Minds 17 Apr Written By Susie Gibson During the summer of 2023, Parivash took on the mighty K2 mountain and trekked to base camp - all for the charity ‘Young Minds’. Read how she got on… “On 15 July 2023, I embarked on an inspirational journey to the base camp of the world second highest mountain “K2”. I volunteered to be the part of the expedition and underestimated all the forewarning. I was the youngest member of the team of eight people, including my mum. All of the team were experienced hikers and I was only had the experience from my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. This was my first ever exposure to such a harsh environment, including treacherous terrain. The hike was approximately 100km each side, through magnificent glaciers.”Overall, the journey to the base camp of K2 was a life-changing experience. Not only did I push myself beyond my limits physically, but I also learned the importance of mental strength and resilience in such challenging environments. The sense of accomplishment and fulfilment I felt standing in front of the majestic mountain will stay with me forever.”Moreover, being able to contribute to a cause like mental health awareness through my journey added another layer of meaning to the experience. It was heartwarming to see the support and generosity of those around me and helped to raise £525 for the charity YoungMinds””I am grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in my own little way.”In the end, I returned home with not just memories and sore muscles, but with a newfound appreciation for the power of nature, the importance of mental well-being, and the strength of community support. This journey will always hold a special place in my heart as a reminder of what we can achieve when we push ourselves to our limits and work together towards a common goal.”I encourage everyone to seek their own adventures and embrace the challenges that come with them. You never know what incredible things you might discover about yourself and the world around you.”” — Parivash G Susie Gibson
