An Evening with NASA Astronaut Don Thomas (Years 6 - 11)

Join us for an out of this world evening with NASA astronaut, scientist, educator and author Don Thomas! Be inspired by someone who has seen our world from a perspective few ever will.

As well as an extraordinary lecture and Q&A session, pupils will have the opportunity to meet Don and get a signed photograph (£15) or to purchase a signed copy of his book (£25).

Who is the event for?

Pupils in Years 6 - 11 who are both studying at Hymers College and within our local community.

How do I book tickets?

Booking for tickets has now closed.

Where and when does the event take place?

The event will take place at the main Hymers College campus in Hull on Thursday 6 June as per the below schedule. Event parking is in the East Car Park. Please can all attendees report to the Gore room in our Learning Resource Centre (LRC) by 5:30pm.

17:00 - 17:40: Pupils will be welcome to meet Don, buy photos (£15) and signed books (£25) in Gore. Payment is via card direct to Don's team.
17:40 - 18:00: Pupils to be seated in the Main Hall. Parents/family are welcome to remain in the LRC for drinks/snacks.
18:00 - 19:20: Lecture and Q&A in the Main Hall.
19:20 - 19:40: Opportunity to collect photos from Gore.

Do I need to bring my ticket(s)?

We will have a guest list on hand, but if you can bring the ticket with QR code for each child that you're bringing it would help speed up the check-in process.

My child can no longer attend. Can I pass their ticket to a friend?

To ensure we can properly care for each of the children in attendance, tickets are not transferable. This event is now sold out, so if you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your ticket via Ticket Tailor or email events@hymers.org so that we can do this for you, allowing another child to attend.

Can parents/guardians or other family members come along too?

This event is reserved for pupils in Years 6 - 11 only. Whilst parents/guardians are welcome to come to Hymers College to help with dropping off and collecting pupils, they will not be able to attend the lecture. We will have space available for you in Gore to wait and enjoy free refreshments, should you wish.

Can I look around Hymers whilst I wait?

Our buildings are only accessible by staff and students, but we would be happy to take you on a tour. If you're interested in doing this whilst you wait for your child, please email events@hymers.org so that we can arrange this.

I’m not planning on staying during the event. Where do I go to collect my child at the end?

We anticipate that the lecture will finish around 19:20. Please arrive at Gore (following these instructions) and we will bring your child to meet you.

I have another question...

We're happy to help! Email events@hymers.org and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
